March 18, 2013 - What Ship will You Build?

Dear Family,
A shout out to my paps! Elder Pinegar March 2013 - Wenatchee, WA

Well this week has been great.  My comp and I are doing fine. I have been working on planning for the mission and how I can plan my life better,  as in who I want to become as I go through the mission.
You are a ship at sail when you're on the mission. With the breath of God pushing you forward, you can either move with the currents of the ocean or chart a course and achieve both ways you're going to get to a destination.

In one end you have ridden the ocean, rolled the waves, and weathered the storms and arrive to the beach as driftwood and washed up on the end of your mission a couple miles short of where you thought you should have ended.

The other, you have built a sail, carved a rudder (one of those fin things) and carried an anchor. You have weathered the storms, enjoyed the ocean breeze, watched the star to chart your course, and visited places you didn't know existed.  In the end of your voyage, you have sailed many miles, and seen many wonders, been hardened by the storms, and softened by the stars that you are following. Having gone many more miles, more than those who just go with the flow in a boat made of drift.  Those who take time to invest in themselves through setting goals to guide their paths, go much farther than those who don't take that time to invest in the tools that guide them through their lives. They end up living a mediocre and drifting life and end up somewhere in between the middle, but far beneath the potential they have. Life is based on the choices you make.

Choosing to build a sail, setting goals, building a rudder, keeping daily progress, and keeping an anchor, having unchanging standards help us go farther than you can go.  Goals, monitored to achieve a personal standard, makes a man admirable and great.

I want everyone to have a great life. I want everyone to have goals and a hope for their future.  The ability to change ourselves is a gift given through Christ and his atonement. By pushing ourselves to become our best, we are striving to make the best use of his gift.  I love you all.  I hope you make yourselves the best you can be. I know that this works through personal experience and testimonies of the prophets old and current.
“When performance is measured,
performance improves.
When performance is measured and reported,
the rate of improvement accelerates.”

I love this quote from the prophet. It is so true.
Love all of you.

Your friend,

Elder Pinegar
